We optimised the sidewall profile to combine reassuring primary and secondary stability with the tumblehome (tuck-in) needed for comfortable and efficient control from an optimal solo-seating position.

When trimmed level, the Firefly 14 is an easy-going touring canoe that runs true. Being compact and optimised for solo paddling, it cuts through any breeze, and it’s forgiving of tired strokes at the end of a long day.

Set up as a dedicated solo, the Firefly comes into its own on wilder rivers. It offers a dry ride and responds well to weight shifts as the paddler looks to carve across eddy-lines. In the right hands, it can handle a tripping load on Class 3+ rivers.

Every “traditional” model in the Silverbirch Canoes range benefits from class-leading technical moulding which optimises material distribution in ways which give each hull “engineered strength” based around our tapered-foam technology.

The Firefly 14 Solo is available in two constructions. One prioritises durability over weight and is ideal for professional use. The other is optimised for recreational users in ways which puts Silverbirch Canoes in close competition with more expensive composite or Royalex craft.
