Team Ireland @ The Home Internationals Surf Kayak Competition

Team Ireland @ The Home Internationals Surf Kayak Competition

Team Ireland have just returned from the Home Internationals @ Portrush, County Antrim.
The Home Internationals is a Bi-Annual event consisting of what are deemed the home nations( Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland ).
Each Nation submits its best teams to compete for the title at the end of a few days competition. All competing against each other for the highest scoring waves.

This year, after a couple of great days of pumping practice surf, the swell dropped.
CANI( Canoe association of Northern Ireland ) had to run the event in 1 day to make use of the last of the incoming waves.

This meant for 12 straight hours of heated competition.
Small waves didn't put off the teams as all still went as hard as they can for the longest rides, the tightest turns and the most speed on all of the waves.

At the end of the day, once all results were in Team Ireland came 2nd overall.
The results were:

  1. England
  2. Ireland
  3. Northern Ireland
  4. Wales
  5. Scotland

For the Irish Team, this is a great result,

This is a team we have been building since the First Canoe Ireland Club Champs in Tramore in 2014.
Many of this team first took to the water in Surf Kayaks then, and now, only 2 years later, they have World Championships and Home Internationals Medals.
There is great things to come for next years World Championships at Portrush.
Onwards and Upwards for Team Ireland.
Congrats to Team England on the Win, and to the crew at CANI for hosting us.

Ya'll should head up their neck of the woods, check out the playspot at Toome, the Surf all over the North Coast, and the rivers. Some great paddling and amazing sightseeing to be had.

For me,
The event was great, but also, the team freesurfs we had before and after showed how much we've all improved, how much we've gelled as a team, and how much we enjoy the craic.
We had some mighty waves together, and many more to come.

A standout piece of kit for me for surfkayaking has been my Palm Kaituna TopDeck.
I have this 18 months now. It is used 3 - 4 times per week, still going strong after some hard use.
Canoe Centre were able to help custom order this before last years Surf Kayaking worlds.
It gets year round use. From April right through til September, this is all I wear.
In other months, I throw a a cag over it for extra warmth.
Freedom of movement, warm and lightweight = Top Class!

Thats All for Now,
Catch ya'll in the water :)
